Excel files randomly replaced by text file of sites recently visited
on the web...

Literally: I opened a spreadsheet which I had been working on a few
days earlier and all it was was a large text file of websites which
I'd visited and, of course, it wanted me to format it for Excel, etc.
etc.

This happened to several spreadsheets which I'd been working on.

I THINK that I may have run the 10.1.5 update in between but I cannot
be sure.

What else would cause this? Do you routinely back up all Office
documents before running an update?

You're right - it's weird, and not something that can be explained
within Office, AFAIK - replacing files is a MacOS job.

What OS X are you running?

While I back up my files every night, I don't do it before an update
- updates don't touch documents unless you store them in the
application folder.
