Hi, I work as a support technican and lately we have been having som
real wierd issues with temp files crashing Word or blocking other users
from accessing the documents. I dont even know where to start with
this. Word can be very confusing when you have to down into its
technical issues.
Quick Description:
Temporary word files are left on the server blocking other users from
access. When these files are access by other user (or the same user
repeatedly) the document might open as read-only, Word might crash.
The Situation:
The company has constructed an Access DB that works as a document
managing system. The documents are handled in hierarchies and basic
operations on the files are allowed. Like "Open Document". In this
manner the word documents are opened by the Access DB. The network is a
Windows 2003 domain server and users work from the server where all
documents are stored.
Error Description:
When a document is opened on the server through the Access DB temp
files are created on the server in the same folder as the Word document
in question. Temp files are also created in a local folder on the users
own local machine: etc "C:\Documents and
Settings\{username}.VIRANATIVE\Local Settings\Temp".
The temporary files created can be removed but even with all temp files
purged on both clients and server this does not help the case. In the
list of users/owners on the Properties tab on the temp files there is
an entry named: "Account Unknown:
5-1-5-21-23-632545-399474178-2040250562-1239". Other users listed in
the security tab is Administrators, SYSTEM, the group of the users with
access to the document and also the user names of the users with access
to the file.
We have tried full reinstall of clients computers, updating Office,
purging profiles of all temporary data. Both on local computers and
serverside.
If the user manually opens the file on the server none of these issues
occur. One of the DB users has never had any problem, two others have
issues all the time.
We have had issues with this for a long time so if you could assist us
with this that would be of tremendous help!
