Will a trial ever overwrite a permanent version?

At the college where I work, several books come bundled with a trial version
of the Microsoft Office Professional 2007 suite.

What happens in the following situations?

-Let's say that the user has a permanent version of Office 2003 installed.
Will the trial version of Professional 2007 overwrite the permanent version
of 2003?

-Let's say that the user has the full version of Home and Student suite
installed. Will the trial version of Professional 2007 overwrite their
permanent-version programs, such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint? If not,
will their permanent versions stay permanent while simultaneously installed a
trial version of added software, such as Access?

Thanks!

Thanks for the reply, JoAnn.

With that in mind, will performing a customized installation prevent this
from happening?

I have installed the permanent version of Office 2007 several times and know
that it can be customized not to overwrite previous versions, but I was
wondering if the trial version functioned similarly.
