Will Office 2000 user files be affected upgrading to Office 2003?

I am about to upgrade my computer (XP SP 2) from Office 2000 to Office 2003.
Will any of my user files (i.e., .doc .xls .ppt) be affected, including my
Outlook 2000 critical files including .pst archives, contacts and similar
files? I do have everything backed up...just want to be sure.

Also - Office 2003 apps. will open up files created in Office 2000, right?

Many thanks!
