Will older versions of MS office work on my new XP laptop?

S

Slowhand

Just got a new laptop and would like to put some new software on this
new machine. Will older versions of MS office such as Office 95 or 97
work on an XP machine? I see older MS Office versions on e-bay and the
price seems very attractive. Since I am not a big power user I think
the older versions of MS office will still be fit my needs.

One other question is what versions of MS office have the validation
process that limits the number of computers the program can be loaded
onto. I recently purchased Word and installed it on my desktop and my
laptop. Guess what? My hard drive crashed on the desktop and I
dropped my laptop. Now I have to purchase two new machines and new
software to boot.

Thanks in advance for any comments and suggestions, Slowhand

Older versions of Office will work, but not near as well
as the latest version of Office. Why would you purchase
a new computer and then run very outdated software?

P.S. Don't buy any software from eBay...too many folks
have already been ripped-off. Purchase your software from
a local, reputable, software retailer.

Office 97 products will work just fine.

IF your laptop comes with Windows XP with Service Pack 2 installed you might
have some problems installing Office 97. If so, use Google Groups to search
this group and microsoft.public.office.misc for workarounds/fixes.
