Professional edition 2003 upgrade be enough to do all functions of powerpoint
without buying the original office professional edition 2003.

Hi Dan,

To install an upgrade Office 2003 package you'll need to have, either installed or the CDs, for a 'qualifying' product from the list
here.

Moving between 2003 packages is considered a crossgrade by Microsoft and the upgrade packages won't work in that scenario.
Powerpoint 2003 is also available as a standalone product.

PowerPoint is included in Office 2003 for Students and Teachers {
http://www.microsoft.com/office/editions/prodinfo/default.mspx }. You should
be able to open and edit PowerPoint files. Some things to check:

Did you activate Office 2003? If not, do so.
Did you create the PowerPoint file off a CD? If so, copy the file to
your hard drive. In Windows Explorer go to the file, right click on the
file and select Properties and then clear the Read Only box.
Have you tried Help, Detect and Repair in any Office 2003 application?

Likely more that I am not recalling. I assume that you installed PowerPoint
since you can open the file.
