Will security stay if I copy database?

I need to continue work on the database after we "go live". So, what I want
to do is copy the split database to another drive to work on separately from
the one the user's are viewing. Then at the end of the day, copy the one
I've been updating to the drive where the database is that the users have
been viewing.
Is this possible w/o losing security, & messing up the split of the database?
Thank you

The way I do this is to have a development FE in a private area linked to a
live BE - I have the workgroup info file in the same folder as the BE and
have shortcuts to suit. That way you can deploy your FE to users without
any re-mapping or re-linking.

I recommend using a separate copy of the workgroup file.

Using a shared workgroup file while developing has in
the past sometimes caused strange locking conflicts.

Never had that problem myself, any specific examples?

No, just personal experience and the odd story.
Personally only with A97, since I've never shared
a workgroup while in design mode in A2K.

I can tell you specifically about A97 that none
of my users would be able to enter their copies
of the FE if I had my FE open in design mode,
using the same shared workgroup. Existing users
where not affected. No special permissions were
assigned, all users were members of the Users
group. Login was used only to identify occasional
record locking conflicts.

If I had anything more specific, I'd mention it, but I don't :~)
