Will there be a 2008->2010 upgrade?

I just bought the 2008 home/student version, and wonder if there will be
an upgrade option for the 2010/2011 version, instead of buying a
complete new Office suite?

I don't have the license text at hand, but I recall that the Student
versions are not upgradeable. Considering their low cost, this should
be now surprise. And take note that for Windows 2010, Microsoft is not
providing an upgrade option. Probably would be good guess that they
will do the same for Mac Office 2011 when it comes out. I have a hunch
also that the next version will cost more than the 2008 version (both
student and regular) as from what I read will be a bigger system, e.g.
macros are coming back.

The Home and Student version traditionally has cost less than the
upgrade version, so I would expect that even if there is an upgrade
program you'd still be better off getting Home and Student.

For 2008, Microsoft initiated an upgrade program from Home and Student
to Home and Business, but that wasn't offered from the outset.

To get a definitive answer to your question you must wait until the
information is announced by Microsoft.

In the past the education edition (now known as 'Home & Student') has been
eligible for upgrade to the 'standard' edition, but not to a new version of
the education edition. What the policy will be for Office 2011 has not yet
been announced, but I doubt that it will change... As Jim said, that's a
part of the reason why the education version is significantly cheaper than
any of the other editions of the version.
