Win 7 and Too Many Users

Most of our boxes are XP, but a couple of them are Win 7.
Also, the XP boxes have Access xp (2002) installed, but the Win 7 boxes have
Access 2003.

Problem: when a user on Win 7 opens an access program, all of the xp users
then get a "Too many users" error when they attempt to open the same access
program. It only takes one Win 7 user to kill all attempts by xp users to
open a file.

Does anyone know of a solution to this problem, or perhaps have more
information about what may be causing it?

Thanks in advance for any help.

That sounds like a permissions issue with the Win 7 OS. But we need a wee
bit more information.

Where are the access programs actually located? I'm assuming here that you
are talking about mdb files? And are you letting multiple users open the
SAME single MDB, or do you have the proper FE/BE configurations?

Also, out of curiousity, is the text of the actual error message really "Too
many users"?

Thanks for your reply.

The .mdb files are located on a network drive. They are split into fe/be
files (mostly to keep front end crashes from destroying data tables), but
they are both on the network, so all users are opening the same .mdb file.
This hasn't been a problem in the past, so I have just continued with this
method. Good point, though, I will try moving the front end to c: and see if
I can open the database on xp while win 7 has the app. open.

If it is permissions, do you know how to keep win 7 from demanding
exclusivity?

Thanks again for your help.

To be honest, I've not encountered that error. Access limited to 255
concurrent users. So, that sounds like an error that would be generated if
more than that number tried to connect, and that would be odd indeed. I'm
going to do some Binging to see if I can find more info.
