win.dat files

We just recently began using Outlook 2002, XP (we were
using groupwise). We send a great deal of attachments via
internet e-mail and have discovered that some people are
receiving the attachments in a win.dat format and can't
open them.

As an example, I've seen it where one user on AOL can open
the attachment just fine and another AOL user gets the
win.dat file.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Do not use Outlook Rich Text Format for sending mail. It can only be
interpreted by Outlook and Eudora. Use Plain Text or HTML, plain being the
preferred.

I tried this and it didn't change anything. Attachments I
send to those users still convert to the winmail.dat.

The only success I've had with those "problem" recipients
is that I was successfull sending 3 attachments but that
was only because Outlook converted those to a zip file.

Any other suggestions?

Outlook doesn't convert anything to Zip files. It is appears that way, you
have an add-on (PKZip or WinZip running in the System Tray) doing the
zipping for you.
