WIN32 error message in Word

I just downloaded from the Microsoft site a 60 day trial version of office on
my husbands computer. Now every time we try to open a word document that is
on the desk top I get the following error message:
C:\documents and settings\HP administrator\desktop\name of document\is not a
valid WIN32 application. How can I fix this?

The default action in the Windows file association for .doc files
is probably set to "run" instead of "open". Try re-registering
Word as described at
http://www.word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/ReRegisterWord.htm .

Thanks, this didn't work but I tried just downloading it again and when I
clicked on the documents the little box opened asking me what application I
wanted to use to open the documents and I chose word and it works now - so
thanks for getting me there.
