feature is no longer functioning properly would you lke to repair this
feature now yes or no" on clicking yes the installer screen flashes on again

necessary files due to windows installer error 1635 this patch package could
not be opened verify that the package exists and that you can access it or
contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid windows

You've posted in a MacXL newsgroup. You might have better luck with

microsoft.public.excel.setup

(though it doesn't get much traffic) or

microsoft.public.excel

I think something happend with your Office installation and when you
try to open Excel it tries to fix it (by the installer), but cannot.

The thing which is probably going on - when you buy office 2003 you
need to perform registration to MS which will give you some long key
(diffrent form the key writtenm on CD) as a verification you have
legal copy of office, I think that when the Excel starts to fix the
problem it cannot find or acces these validification and that's why it
cannot proceed the installer.

First I would ask you to check for viruses, and spyware which can
trick the registry. Adaware is free for personal use and it's save for
common user to run it clear the spy. Check here:http://
www.lavasoftusa.com/

If that will not fix it, then you will need to reinstall Office, I
would do it as clear re-instal. Means that prior to installing again,
I would remove all data about office from registry. This will require
backuping your data but I think it will be better rather than to try
*detect and repair* which I do not like.

Thank you for your post but as I am a novice on the computer could you please answer me this question will removing office via add remove programmes remove all the registry entries or will I have to go into the registry and delete the entries (which by the way the thought of having to do this terrifies me) By the way have checked for viruses and spyware none found

Thanks in anticipation
