Window Installer upon opening Excel

Hadley

Hello,

I attemted to update Office from the Microsoft website,
and following this, I can no longer open Excel. I have MS
Office 2000 SR-1 Professional and Win98. Everytime I try
to open Excel now, I get the pop up message "Windows
Installer - Preparing to Install" and then it tries to
configure MS Office 2000 SR-1 and needs the
CDs...unfotunately I bought the computer second hand off a
school and do not have the original disks. Is there anyway
I can uninstall the MS Office update, or get around this
problem?

Thanks so much in advance,

Hadley

Other than contacting the seller for the disks to the computer (should always be
included) or purchasing an additional copy of Office 2000 (try ebay) the answer
is no you can not get around it

Miss Layla is correct.

I always copy my Microsoft CDs on to a folder on my computer, that way whenever I run an update of go to install something or other for Office or XP, I just point to the folder as the location of the disk so that way I dont have to go hunting for the CD.

I'm experiencing the same problem...
I went to Microsoft.com and started downloading Office
Updates. It asked me to install a CD (which I no longer
have). I cancelled the updates and since then I can't
open Excel. It keeps asking me to install and I need an
Office CD to install!
How bloody annoying!
Have you managed to resolve?
I'm desperate to sort this out!
