Hi Seaning,
There have been a number of things identified that cause this.
If you don't have dual moniors, and this problem persists after you restart your PC you can try the following:
A. Change the the color choices in
Office File Button=>Word Option=>Popular
then restart Office.
B. Windows Control Panel, Display settings:
Color settings should be set higher than '256'.
C. Accessibility: Display High Contrast should be unchecked.
D. Toggle the Windows Theme and color schemes in Windows XP
to standard Windows XP Blue from a custom/ 'classic' setting.
E. Check the website for the manufacturer of your
graphics card to look for an updated driver.
F. System: Hardware=>Device Manager:
Display Driver - If SMS Remote Control Agent is present
disable it then restart your PC.
If this last one worked, please advise if you have installed
or use any sort of Remote 'help desk' or online collaboration capable software recently. It's not clear what enables that SMS
Agent.

I have office 2007 on xp. when I open word, excel etc. instead of colourful
ribbon etc. I have pure white backround old looking icon's and '98 looking
window. Can only think I cocked it up when installing something to make old
2003 doc's open in 2007. Can anyone help?<<
