Window scheduling

I am trying to find the best (or at least a good) way of scheduling a
"window". I have a task that I want to allocate 16 hours (2 work
days) labor for, but the task may be done any time during a five day
period (single work week). IOW, 5 days time set aside for 2 days
labor.
Both are estimates, the actuals will be completed as the tasks are
done.

Hello Gene,

Insert the Work column beside the Duration column : Insert / Column...
For that task, enter :
- Duration : 5d
- Work : 2d

Then you can assign a resource. Ms Project will calculate for that resource
an average assignment of 40%

This is a level of effort task. One way to capture it is
to setup the task as "fixed work" for 5 days duration and
16h of work - so a normal 8h day resource will be
allocated at 40%. Baseline the project then when you
capture actuals, it will still reflect your plan.

What do you think?
