Window showing open programs won't close

Lately, when I use the Alt+Tab keys to move between several open programs,
the window in the middle of the screen that shows all open programs remains
open even after I have selected one of the open programs; that is, while the
selected program opens, the window showing all open programs remains jammed
open in the middle of the screen; it is impossible to work on the open file
when it is blocked by this open window
The only solution that I have found to close this window is to close all
open programs
Is there any more efficient way of solving this problem?
