Window shrinks and repositions automatically?

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Power PC

When I'm working on a Word doc and go to check email in Entourage, the Word window shrinks and repositions itself when I come back to it. I don't understand why this happens. Is there a way I can stop this from happening?

This is another joyous side-effect of the fact that Word 2008 is
incompatible with Spaces.

If you turn Spaces off, it won't happen. Otherwise, there's no way to stop
it happening.
