Window size and placement

When I open an existing file, it mimicks the same size and placement of the previously opened file. How do I maintain the window size and placement on my screen for each file? Is there a setting somewhere?

Word remembers the size and location of the most-recently closed document.

To answer the question, we need to know what type of CPU you have (Intel or
Power PC?), what version of OS you are using (three digits please: e.g. OS
10.5.2) and which version of Word you are using (again, three digits please)

Get the OS version from the Apple menu, and the Word version from the About
item on the Word menu.

When I open an existing file, it mimicks the same size and placement of the
previously opened file. How do I maintain the window size and placement on my
screen for each file? Is there a setting somewhere?

My system is OSX ver. 10.5.2. My CPU:

Model Name: Power Mac G5
Model Identifier: PowerMac11,2
Processor Name: PowerPC G5 (1.1)
Processor Speed: 2.3 GHz
Number Of CPUs: 2
L2 Cache (per CPU): 1 MB
Memory: 8 GB
Bus Speed: 1.15 GHz
Boot ROM Version: 5.2.7f1

My version of Microsoft Word:Mac 2008, ver. 12.0.0 (071130)

My prior version of Word (2004) remembered and opened to the size and placement of the document window as it was when it was last saved/closed. It would be great if this version could do the same. Thank you for your help.

Thanks for the version issue: now I can tell you that it's a bug that
affects Word 2008 on your OS.

There's a Service Release due next week. I really hope it will fix this
issue, but no guarantees.

Suddenly my Word [Office for Mac 2004] documents are opening under my 3 lines of menu tool boxes [I have a few custom tools] and I can't get to the top of the document to move it nor to see the box when I am saving it. How can I get it to open under the menu bar tools? Thank you. [Power Mac, not Intel, OS 10.4.11]

Thank you for your assistance thus far.

Downloaded and updated with the Service Release but it did not fix the problem.

Let me know if you can think of anything else. Can I post anyplace else where Microsoft would notice or any way I could contact them about the bug?

Thanks again,

There will be at least two more Service Releases for Office 2008.

The fix for that was not ready by the time 12.0.1 came out. You notice that
12.0.1 moved only the right-hand digit, from 12.0.0. To 12.0.1? It ended up
being a very minor update, just to fix the crashing bugs that were solved at
the time.

There are several other fixes in the pipeline that will require a lot more
coding and testing. Expect release 12.1.0 before the end of the year. My
guess is around July. That will be a much larger and more extensive fix.

Hope it's in that! And no, there is nowhere else you can post. Microsoft
knows about this bug, and several others. They are working on them, in
priority order. This is not one of the nastiest. But it's not the least
nasty, either...

Once Microsoft has a bug on the list, it will never be forgotten. It stays
there for all time. They give each one a fictitious "dollar value" of the
annoyance and problems it creates for users. And a "Cost", the cost of time
and effort to fix it. They fix the ones with the biggest pay-off first.

Having your window open in the wrong place, at the wrong size, is not really
going to bring the world to an end for most users. But it pisses a lot of
people off, and it shouldn't be an expensive fix. So: Next release, or the
one after, is my guess.

Hope this helps
