Windows 2000 and Office 2000 Updates

Ken

I have had lightning knock out my computer and have had it
rebuilt with anew motherboard, processor, and Hard drive. I
am installing my Windows 2000 and Office 2000 Premium on
the new Hard drive. These are Original Issues of Windows
2000 and Office 2000 Premium. What Updates do I need to add
after the fresh installation??

Hi, Ken.

FIRST, make sure you have your firewall and antivirus back in place and
working. Then go to Windows Update and get the latest Win2K SP and all the
fixes it says you need. (Even with broadband, this might take a while, but
you need those fixes, especially the July one that protects you from the
Blaster worm.) Then go to Office Update, let it detect what you need for
Office 2000, and download those.

I'm using WinXP and Office 2K3 now, so some details will be different for
you and me. I had to reconfigure my Norton Internet Security 2004 to allow
the Update sites to recognize my Windows and Office configuration. (I
haven't yet found the secret for the Office Update site; it says I'm not
running Internet Explorer. So, I have to temporarily disable NIS to get
past the "gatekeeper"; then I can re-enable NIS and get the updates.)
