Windows 2004 Crashes When Started

Version: 2004
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel

Every time I try to open Word or PowerPoint I get the message "The application Word quit unexpectedly." It had been working fine one day and not the next (possibly after the computer was restarted).

I read in one of the other threads that the problem may arise from installing updates to OSX. I did install updates this week and was wondering if that may be the problem but don't know what update I need to reinstall. Can you help?

I currently have Leopard, Mac OSX 10.5.5 Intel.

So far I have tried opening the programs three different ways: by opening a document directly, by launching Word directly from my Applications folder, and by launching word using my Dock.

Does anyone have any suggestions for what may fix this problem? I'm not real computer savvy, is there more information I need to provide about the problem?

Is Office fully updated as well? The current update level for Office 2004 is
11.5.2, so (since you can't launch the programs) go to
Applications/Microsoft Office 2004/Updater Logs to see what the last update
is. If you are not at 11.5.0 or higher you need to go to the Mactopia link
below to download & apply the updates beginning with the lowest revision
number not shown I that folder.

After the updates run Disk Utility - Repair Disk Permissions, restart your
Mac & see if conditions improve. Reply with your results, pro or con.

The latest update in the Update Log is 11.5.2 which you said is the current update level for Office 2004. Should I try reinstalling that update or is there something else I should try?

Thanks,
Beth

No, I don't think reapplying that update will have any effect. Try the
points made at the end of my previous post & see if that provides any
improvement. If not I'd suggest getting the 10.5.5 Combo Update from Apple
Downloads, reapply that, repair permissions again & see how things go.

Thank you so much for your help Bob. I tried repairing permissions and it said permissions differed on about 10 different things. I restarted and Word still didn't work. So then I reinstalled the 10.5.5 Combo update and everything appears to be working fine. When I started having problems I was afraid it was something major that I would have to take my computer in for. Thanks for helping me through the process.
