Windows 7 reinstall Outlook 2010 query

Before resinstalling my windows 7 64bit system I backed up all my outlook
files. These consited of archive.pst archive1.pst, archive2.pst,
archive3.pst, archive4.pst, also outlook.pst, outlook1.pst, outlook2.pst,
outlook3.pst, outlook4.pst.

After reinstalling outlook I then clicked on open then browsed to where the
above file were and chose the 2 newest and largest and opened these. The
newest and largest showed all my sent emails back to 2005 as I hoped for,
the inbox however only had a bout a dozen entries. Why shouldn't this also
show all my mail in since 2005, and is there a way of getting it back.

The last time I went through this procedure it took me weeks to get my
contacts back, but in contrast they were just ';there' this time (as were my
IE faves)

Set the PST file with your entries back to 2005 (Outlook.PST ?) as the
default data store.
File > Info > Account Settings > Account Settings. > Data Files.
Copy the handful of e-mails from the 'new' data to the 'old'
Close the unwanted PST.

Also I have no contacts now - how can I get these back?

Did you look in the Archive files also?
Outlook shows the contacts list that is stored in the default data file -
presumably that will be the one with your sent items back to 2005.

I did, and they didn't show, but I have solved this by creating a new
profile then opening old Outlook.pst files and copy and pasting my inbox and
sent to my new profile, adn I now have all my contacts back.

Not the ideal approach but any approach is better than losing them
altogether :)
Make sure you backup that PST file regularly.
