Windows 95 - MicroSoft Office /Word

John

I am trying to open up word through Windows95. My
operating system is Windows ME but the office programs
that I have installed are from Windows 95..They have been
working fine until a couple of days ago. Some reason I am
having problems opening Word. Access, Excel and Powerpoint
open and work fine. Microsoft Office verison 6.0 is what
I have installed.

I receive the following message when I open Word.
"WINWORD"
"An error has occurred in your program. To keep working
anyway. Click Ignore and save your work in a new file. To
quit this program click close...etc."

If you choose "ignore" nothing happens so you are left to
choose "close" then you receive another message box.
"WINWORD caused an error in WINWORD.EXE - Winword will now
close, if you continue to experience a problem try to
restart your computer".

I have restarted the computer several times. I have tried
copying over the WINWORD.EXE file from the install
diskettes for Microsoft office. I have tried uninstalling
and reinstalling just word. I get the same message. When
I reinstalling word, I received an error message about
going into MS-DOS and running a file called _MSRSTRT.EXE.
I tried this in MS-DOS but the file was not there so I
copied the backup file to the .EXE file. I ran the
program and it didn't seem to do anything. Does anyone
have an idea what is going on??

I appreciate any feedback on what I need to do to get this
to work again.

Thanks!

Hi John,

Do you mean you are using Office 95? Microsoft Office is not part of
the Windows operating system. :) There are operating system
requirements for installing and using Office but that is it.

In any event there are several reasons for receiving errors starting
Word. This article contains the common troubleshooting steps:
