Windows 98 hangs after installing Office 2000

Hi,

I installed Office 2000 on a Windows 98 machine. The
installation went fine. Upon restarting Windows refuses to
boot and keeps hanging forever in the "Starting Windows
98" screen. The system however comes up in Safe Mode. What
could be the reason for this?
