Windows Authentication Challenge on Refresh in PWA

I recently worked with a client where we enhanced their SharePoint Project
Workspace template and at the same time included their company logo in both
the Workspace template and also the home page in PWA. It all worked fine
apart from the following anomaly.

If a user refreshes the page when in Project Web Access they are presented
with an windows login dialog box, this appears despite their having opened
PWA and having been authenticated using their Windows credentials – the user
can navigate to any page within PWA without challenge, the challenge only
appears if the user refreshes the page.

Any ideas why this should occur?

The titlegraphic and pwalogo images were simply replaced by making a copy of
the default .gif images and renaming them and then replacing the original
..gif images with files of the same name but displaying the company logo and
not the default images.

It sounds like the file-level security changed when you did this. The method
you used is what I used to do for 2003, however for 2007, I always store the
custom images in a SharePoint document library that everyone has access to.
You could make a folder in the Public doc library or create a hidden library
in the PWA site collection for this purpose. Hidden as do not show on Quick
Launch menu.
