Windows authentication works but cannot logout and then back in

Megan

Hi, When I use a link (saved favorite) to get into PWA, I don't need to enter
a username or password (and oddly enough, I am using Windows authentication
but my Windows account is not what I use to log into my PC). But anyway, my
issue is that once I am in there, if I click logout, and then try to log back
in, it will never accept my credentials. However, if I go back to my
favorites link again, I will be automatically logged back in. Why does it
keep telling me "You have entered an incorrect user name/password
combination. (5002)". I am definitely using my correct information.

Megan,

Can you check three things:

1) What is the exact URL path that the saved favorites has stored?

2) What is the setting you have under Internet Explorer Tools>Internet
Options>Internet>Security Levels for the last item on the list which is User
Authentication>Logon:

To view the items click on the "Custom level..." button

3) Go to Start>Settings>Control Panel>User Accounts>Advanced Tab>Manage
Passwords
Do you see any stored user names and passwords for the Project Server
address?

My issue isn't that it automatically logs me in, that's fine. It's that when
I try to log in myself (after clicking log out) it doesn't ever work. And
this is a problem that all the users are having.

In the future, please post which version of Project Server you are using.
2002, 2003, or 2007? From your description, it sounds like 2003. If this
is the case, after you log out of PWA, you must click the "Log on using your
Microsoft Windows user account" in the sidepane on the left side of the
page. Let us know if this helps.

That does log me back in again (and we are on 2003). It still doesn't
require me to enter any login information. I assume that is saved via
Start>Settings>Control Panel>User Accounts>Advanced Tab>Manage
Passwords - is that correct? If I cleared that out, I would need to enter
it again?

Thanks for your help.

Megan,

First of all, please let us know what type of authentication you have?
Is it Windows authentication or Project Server authentication?

If you have windows authentication and it is different from your local
machine username, you can save your password under User Accounts
option. If you already cleared out your credentials there, you will
get the login prompt. You have to entered your login and password.
Also try to enter user name in domain\user name format.

Thanks

Megan,

Sorry, I didn’t read completely of your original posting. Your Project
Server windows user name is different from your local machine user
name. It means, domain of your local machine is different from Project
Server domain. So, you have to enter user name and password to access
PWA. The alternative is, you can store your user name and password
under User accounts -> Manage Password, so you no need to enter login
and password to access the PWA.

By having this setting under Manage Password, you able to access PWA
home from your favorite links. You can also access the PWA by enter
the full URL on browser address bar. You no need to enter user name
and password.

But when you logoff from PWA and you do not have option to access the
PWA. By clicking the options from left menu may not be applicable to
you.

Log on using your Microsoft windows user account -> This option will
work when your Project Serve windows user name and your local machine
windows user name is same

Log on using different Microsoft windows user account -> This option
will work but you have to enter your user name and password. You have
to enter your user name in domain\user name format. I hope you
remember your password.

The best thing in your case is, access from favorite link OR enter
full URL on browser address bar.

Thanks

It logs you into PWA automatically using your Windows user account. You do
not need to enter a user name and password anywhere. Hope this helps.
