"Windows cannot find file...."

I have an annoying problem with Excel 2003. If I try to open an Excel file
from My Computer by double clicking, Excel reports as follows:

"Windows cannot find the document C:\Documents and Settings\Norman\My
Documents\book1.xls" etc. etc.

I do not recall changing anything in the Excel setup, and can find no way of
solving this problem. Anybody got a suggestion?
