Windows Desktop Search

Every time I open Outlook it wants to download Desktop Search. I've tried
twice to download and install, but just as it finishes installing, it says it
can't and then uninstalls everything. What's the problem

Are you using Outlook Express? That's a different program. Try disabling
email searching in Windows Desktop Search or uninstall it.

No, I'm using the office beta outlook. I can't disable email search in
Window's Desktop because it won't install, that's just the problem.

I had the same problem trying to use the beta of OneNote - it kept asking me
to dl Desktop Search, and I never could. So I removed OneNote and gave up.
Life's too short.

For ONENOTE (not Outlook), you can disable the notifications about
getting WDS with the following regkeys:
Set these regkeys:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\OneNote\Options\Other\EnableWDSIndexing
= 0
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\OneNote\Options\Other\ShowWDSUpdateWarning
= 0

For Outlook and troubleshooting of WDS install, consult the following

I did finally find out how to disable the message. I'm not sure how you
would do it in One Note, but in Outlook you have to go to Options, Other,
Advanced Options, and uncheck "show prompts to download Windows Desktop
Search. My guess is that there is something similar in One Note.
