Hi,
This occurs in Office 2004 or 2008, both with the latest updates. This occurs in either Leopard or Tiger - also with the latest updates:
An Excel document that was created in (PC) Office 2003 with .xls extension will not open properly in the Mac version of Excel. The document will open & display properly in Office 2007 or 2003.
Here is a snippet of the first several lines of the file as displayed on the Mac:
* **Begin Snippet***
MIME-Version: 1.0
X-Document-Type: Workbook
Content-Type: multipart/related; boundary="sheet-boundary"
#NAME?
Content-Location: file:///C:/temp/book.htm
Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable
Content-Type: text/html; charset="unicode"
<html xmlns:v=3D"urn:schemas-microsoft-com:vml"
xmlns=3D"urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice"
xmlns:x=3D"urn:schemas-microsoft-comffice:excel"
xmlns=3D"http://www.domain.com <http://www.domain.com>">
<head>
<meta http-equiv=3D"Content-Type" content=3D"text/html; charset=3Dutf-8">
* ***End Snippet****
There are several more lines of header information, followed by a lot of formatting ifo that has the following structure:
* **Begins Snippet*** .xl35
{mso-style-parent:style0;
font-family:Times New Roman;
text-align:left;
vertical-align:middle;
white-space:normal;
border-left:.5pt solid #c0c0c0;
border-top:none;
border-right:none;
border-bottom:.5pt solid #c0c0c0;
}
* **End Snippet***
Thanks for any advice!
Bob
