windows installer always pops up when i run an office application

I have windows xp, and upgraded to office enterprise 2007 (i had office 2003
home office edition) since upgrading I get a windows installer box everytime
I open an office application (Word, Excel, explorer, outlook) I ran a
diagnostic and it suggests it needs upgrading, when I try to download office
files it states I may be missing installer files and cannot complete the
take. Further I cannot remove 2003 either.

So you didn't actually upgrade Office 2003, you installed it in parallel
with Office 2003.
ie when you inserted Office 2007 cd you didnt select to upgrade?

DL, I actually upgraded, but when I ran a diagnostic it showed that that
there were two non-compatible offices running (Office 2003 and Office
enterprise 2007) so I went to remove 2003 and got this message:
This patch package cannot be opened...

so not only do I have them competing I cannot remove the 2003.

Presumably you have no office 2003 cd?
