Windows Installer and Office XP installation

Carlos

I am still having difficulties with windows installer and
office xp. I am unable to go through the Office update
via Office website.
when I want to
install some components i get a message: This patch
package could not be opened. Verify that the patch
package exists adn that you can access it, or contac the
application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows
Installer package.

When i put the Office XP cd to try to reinstall the
program, i get the same message.

In addition, when i run Office xp update, i get a series
of messages including this one:

You installed Office updates in the past and then
upgraded from Windows Installer version 1.0 to Windows
Installer version 1.1. For more information see the KB
article Windows Installer May Prompt for Install Source
if Unavailable.

On the suggestion of someone, I resinstalled windows Xp
but the problem persist. I suppose the issue is with
Windows installer 2.0; but one does one remove this on
windows xp and replace it by an earlier version?

This can be caused by several things, but to correct it you will need
to zap the Windows Installer entry in the Registry and reinstall
Office.

Obtain the following utility and use it to remove only the reference
to Office. Once that is complete then you'll need to reinstall Office
to point the Windows Installer to your installation CD:
