Windows Installer error 1605

Every time I go to open up a document in Word 2003, I get
an error that says "Microsoft Office Word can't display
the template used in this document. Microsoft Office
Word cannot install the necessary files due to Windows
Installer error 1605. This action is only valid for
products that are currently installed". This message is
repeated 5 times, then I can finally enter the document.
Very irritating. Do you know how to fix?

Try running the Windows installer clean-up program which
Microsoft has; I had a similar (though not the same)
problem. My Normal.dot file became corrupted, and ruined
something in the intallation. When I tried to fix it, I
kept getting installer errors similar to yours. The
program would work, but not right. After you run the
clean-up program, you will have to reinstall Word. But
it should fix your problem (I hope). It can be found
