Windows Installer error messages

DBQ David

As I was manually removing a Symantec product via regedit, I accidentally
deleted the following key (I know, I should have backed up my registry file):

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\S-1-5-18

That wiped out the rest of the key: \products\

Now I can't run any Office program, and Windows Installer looks for, but
cannot find, two files:

MSBCM.MSI
MainSP2ff.msp

My questions are:

[1] Can someone help me reconstruct the ...\product\ key?
[2] Will I be able to upgrade to Office 2007 if I cannot rebuild that key?

Have you tried running System Restore? It was reported that it may help in
issues like this...

I presume you had Office 2003 installed for which you bought the 2007
upgrade. No problem, setup will ask for the 2003 install media and it will
let you install 2007 without problems. It is recommended however to clean up
the corrupted Office 2003 entries by using the MSI cleanup tool
(http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301).

Yes, but none of the restore points worked.

I looked at the web site you mentioned and it looked like it would disable
Office 2003, but not repair it. Besides, I've already installed 2007, which
works okay but not perfectly.

Windows Installer keeps looking for MSBCM.MSI (MS Business Contact Manager,
MainSP2ff.msp (security patch 2, I think), and Symantec Client Security.msi
(I've uninstalled this program, as well as Symantec Antivirus.).
