Windows Installer error messages

DBQ David

As I was manually removing a Symantec product via regedit, I accidentally
deleted the following key (I know, I should have backed up my registry file):

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\S-1-5-18

That wiped out the rest of the key: \products\

Now I can't run any Office program, and Windows Installer looks for, but
cannot find, two files:

MSBCM.MSI
MainSP2ff.msp

My questions are:

[1] Can someone help me reconstruct the ...\product\ key?
[2] Will I be able to upgrade to Office 2007 if I cannot rebuild that key?
[3] Or would you suggest some other solution?

Right. I knew better but the Symantec help document indicated that a backup
required using the Internet, but the computer with the problem could not
access the Internet. I later learned I could do a backup from regedit, but by
then it was too late. I'd already done the damage.

I've succeeded in installing the upgrade to Office 2007, and I seem to have
full functionality with 2007 programs, but the error messages continue to pop
up. Now I've discovered that the upgrade left Office 2003 on my computer. Do
I now uninstall Office 2003?

I assume you didn't make a backup of the registry before you started
deleting things from the registry? Have you considered reinstalling Office?

Ooh, tough choice. The computer works so I might be tempted to let it alone.
What pop-up messags are you talking about?
