Windows Installer patch files (.MSP files) are missing.

"Office Update" is failing and I'm presented with four possible reasons why.
One of these reasons leads me to suspect it is because my PC contains no
*.MSP files. The problem description states that I may also be unable to
uninstall Office.

Clicking the "Microsoft Product Support" link takes me to a Web page that
states, "that page is unavailable."

Is there any solution to this problem other than completely re-installing
Windows 98SE and Office 2000?

PS A year or so ago, I was able to use the "Office Updates" option. Now, it
fails and I have no idea why the *.MSP files are missing.

Thank you very much for the tip. I guess I was so annoyed by the "that Web
page is unavailable" response, I assumed I was screwed and needed to start
(reinstalling Windows/Office) from scratch. I've not followed the
instructions on the site you've listed but I did download the utility to see
how it operates.

Post back if you run into problems. At the bottom of the article I
cited is a link to KB article 290301 which gives more details about what
the utility does.

Dazbee Writes: I have experienced the same difficulties as "Befuddled
Bellevue-ite", but assistance offered by "garfield n-odie" does not appear to
help. Have you resolved the issue?

Thanks for the tip. Unfortunately the installation fails with the following
message - "INF Install Failure. Reason invalid INF file"

I have the same problem you have laid out below, did you get a solution from
anywhere?

No joy for me at all. I am still hoping that someone out there has a
solution. All was going swimmingly until I tried to install an office update.
Since then, no more office updates for me!

I too was getting fustrated, and I had other errors as well. The first thing
I did was download and ran the msiccu2. I was able to get a clean install of
my Office Software. That cleared up some other errors but not the update
error. I then read and followed the instructions on kb304498. Nothing was
working until I got to method 7. Then I remembered that Access was bought
separately. I tried the detect and repair and I got some sort of source error
(don't remember exactly what error). I ran msiccu2 again, this time selecting
Access, reinstalled and was able to do my updates.
