Windows Installer Problem

B

Brandon

I recently installed a new hard drive and just finished copying all the files
from my old hard drive to my new hard drive. After everything was copied, I
tried runnning Word and got a message from Windows Installer saying "An error
occurred and this feature is no longer functioning properly. Please run
Setup and select 'Repair...' to restore this application." So I did what the
message said and put in my Office XP Pro CD and after Windows Installer
loaded I was given a message that said:

"The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is
unavailable.

Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the
installation package '511974.MAINSP3ff.msp' in the box below."

I tried searching my entire hard drive and the CD and couldn't find this
file anywhere. I figured I could uninstall Office and re-install but I can't
even do that! Please help!

Hi, Brandon,

Try running the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility to clear out the corrupted
installer entries for Office, and then re-install Office from the CD.

290301 - Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility:

For future reference, copying software over from one drive to another
doesn't always work very well. A clean installation is nearly always the
best way to go, especially where Office software is concerned.

Hope that helps--
