Windows installer runs every time

After installing Office 2000 Pro on a new XP Pro machine,
the installer runs every time word or excel starts. It
prompts me for the install disk, runs a short
installation and then word or excel will start and run
normally. This happens every time these programs are
started.

I know this is probably due to permissions not allowing
the installation data to be written to the registry, but
I can't find it. Service pack 3 has been installed and I
have admin priveledges.

Outlook and Powerpoint run normally, this only happens in
Word and excel.

HELP!
