Windows Installer - This patch package could not be opened.

When running Setup, this message >> This patch package could not be opened.
Verify that the patch package exists and that you can access it, or contact
the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer patch
package ... and ... When attempting to open Word, this message comes up >>
This application must be installed to run. Please run setup from the
location where you originally installed the application.


Office 2000 was downloaded to my computer a year ago and I had to reinstall
it for some reason about a month ago. The messages keep coming up when
trying to reinstall. Can anyone help in getting around this issue?
