windows installer wants to run when i start other programs

I have a program editor (not supplied by MS) but every time I start it up, the Widows installer tries to run (from a CD which isn't there). It takes 5 or 6 attempts at cancelling before it goes away. This is only since I installed office 2000. My old office97 did not do this. Any ideas?

Kelly's Site, www.kellys-korner-xp.com has a link to get the MS Windows
Installer Cleanup Utility. I just used it and it corrected the same problem for
me with another piece of S/W. Look for the Windows Installer suggestions under
XP A to Z.
