Hi,

Recently Windows Live announced that it is now possible to sync your e-mail client with Windows Live/Homail without paying for it. In Entourage you can do this by (1) adding it as as POP-account or (2) with the built in "Windows Live account"-choice. The first option works fine but it doesn't sync the folders it only retrieves emails that were in my Windows Live inbox. The other option is therefore to prefer but when i set the account parametres is says thay I don't have a plus-account (i.e. haven't payed). But this shouldn't happen since that restriction now is removed.

Has MS forget to change that in Entourage or is something else wrong?

Hello,
due to some health issues that force me at home, I'm spending several
day on customizing a Mac machine (an osx86 with Leopard) to work as my
Win7 Ultimate ones do everyday....

All my life, since Hotmail Plus born some years ago, is built around
the intensive use of Live mail Accounts. Both as personal mail
(Hotmail Plus) and Corporate Office Live account (with a registered
domain using Microsoft Live servers).

Well, I must confess that there's no way to get it at its max.

About Live Mail accounts, if yuou want to use Apple Mail or
Thundirbird or Iphones or Nokia Smartphones (be excepted for the
models that handle Live Mobile with no bugs) the best thing to do is
to subscribe an izymail.com account: a sort of bridge that pick up
your HTTP Live Hotmail account stuff and reproduce it in IMAP4 or POP3
to keep your folder structure as it is on the Microsoft servers.

Is very cheap and is the only trick to use Live mail with the "push"
services mobile providers generally use to keep your phone synced with
your mailboxes.
Of course you can also use the new POP3 access mode to Live Accounts
that Microsoft launched some months ago.
But if (like me) you use a lot folders and rules to organize your
mails, this way is completely unuseful.

Coming to mail clients on Leopard, even the HTTP addon for Thundirbird
(to get GMail, AOL and Hotmail directly on Thundirbird), is very slow
and take care only of the Inbox folder.

Entourage, partially do the job.
But, incredibly, manages only the messages through HTTP and doesn't
connect to Calendars, Contact and Task Folder.
There's no an Outlook Connector for Entourage.... and this has no
explanations to me.

I can't understand it.

I even tried to to launch Windows Live Mail client (14.0) through
Crossover (installing it with Contacts, The SQL server and the other
components necessary to launch it).

No way.

I have to make some more trials, but is very difficult in my opinion.
The only way is to use Coherence but is too much Windows involved and
is out of my research.

Tomorrow I will try to access my corporate Exchange server and see how
a Mac user can collaborate in a Windows Environment (through VPN/SSL).

Ciao

Thank you very much for your very thourough answer. I'm in the middle of the exams now and haven't had time to look this over any more. You have reached the same conclusions I have (your were to say...more explorative). Coherence is an alternative but as you say we don't really want to use that...

I still don't get why the Entourage built-in sync doesn't work. MS has created this but it doesn't work and that buggers a lot. I will try to get in contact with them and "put them against the wall".

I figure that Office 2010 is in for a release next year It will be at least one mor year until we se a new Office for the mac-environment. Can't wait that long for a fix and espacially since it might not even get taken care of.
