Hi,

I just reported a similar problem to Microsoft. Your observations are
correct. There's something about Tiger + WMP that doesn't work right.

I just installed tiger in my mac powerbook. I can't run windws media
player videos since. I've downloaded the recent version. No help. I can
see WMP format if I run it from a CD but it won't run is I transfer
them to the desktop. I've tried removing the pref. files and plist
files. No better. Any idea. WMP used to run well from Panther.

Well the problem seems to only affect *some* people. For instance, I
have no Tiger-related problem on the several Mac we have here.
You could try the usual trick that allow WMP to get a fresh new start:
- trash the pref and .plist file for WMP
- repair permissions on the Mac.
- check the drive for directory problems with Disk Utility

You'll find more details in the WMP FAQ.

Another hint from the WMP group: launch GarageBand once, then try again
(that's assuming you have GarageBand).

It sounds weird, but it has worked for some people.
