Windows Placement on Desktop

I would like to have the size and placement of the windows on my desktop stay
in the same place/position permanently. I don't want the maximized view
(that fills the whole screen). I like having the window in the lower right
hand corner of the screen and sized so that I can still see the unused icons
on the desktop. Anybody have suggestions?

Each program saves its own last position, and some programs don't allow
the opening position to be altered. So the ones that can be changed will
open from the position they were closed at.

Well-written programs save their Window size and position when they exit
and restore to that size and position when they're opened again.
Extremely well-written programs make this an option, or allow you to
specify your desired size and position. Poorly-writtem (i.e. most)
programs rely on Windows to remember and restore their windows
coordinates, which it will do, sometimes. Sort of. Until it forgets, or
somrething mungs that registry setting. If you really want to guarantee
thw windows position, you'll need to use something like Autosizer.

The programs I'm having trouble with are Office products (Word, Outlook,
Excel, PPT)--it seems like they would be some of the programs that save the
last position? What are your thoughts?

Thank you for the response. The programs I'm having trouble with are Office
products (Word, OUtlook, Excel, etc)--would you think they are included in
the well-written programs you reference? I'm not sure I can visit the
website you suggest at work due to our internal rules. Please let me know
what you think.

They save the last position, of course if you are having issues with
your profile(corruption or malware issues) or are using a Guest account
that information would not be saved.

Most Mircosoft programs are not well-written in this regard. They tend to
rely on the operating system to do their work for them, and it tends not
to do a very good job. Most Office applications I've used will remember
their windows sizes but not positions and tend to open anywhere on the the
screen. Internet Explorer does the same thing. Outlook 2003 usually
remembers the main window size and position but randomly changes the
coordinates of subordinate windows. I spend a lot of time dragging
windows out of the way. I do have a few programs that always open at the
same size and position, but only one of them was written by Microsoft --
Notepad.
