Windows Sharepoint Services Components Install

I am having a problem installing Windows Sharepoint Services Components
using the install wizard. I have a single system running SharePoint
Services (WSS) and SQL2000 SP4. When installing MS Project Server and using
the Windows Sharepoint Services Components install wizard I am able to
select the default web site but then get the following error:
"An unhandled exception has occurred in a component in your application.
Click continue and application will ignore this error and attempt to
continue.
Specified argument was out of the range of valid values. Parameter name:
'0' is not a valid value for 'value'."

When I click on continue I am able to click on "Next" on the Default Web
Site selection again, and I just go in a loop. Cannot get past this point.

Any help, suggestions.

Thanks,
Tom

Tom,

Please confirm. Have you successfully installed WSS and Project Server 2003
into a SQL SP4 environment, with Risk, Issues and Docs (including Public
documents) all working? I see from your post that it was on the second
attempt. Was the second one a brand new installation, creating the Project
Server DB and Sharepoint DB or were they still there from the first time?

I've been fighting with the blasted thing for 2 days now with a variety of
issues. Getting tantalisingly close sometimes but not yet successful. One
of the issues was the one you mentioned.

My initial installation of Project Server failed repeatedly and I eventually
went back to SQL SP3 and it worked. Then installed SP4 and it still worked,
so I suspected the installation tools.

However, I was having troubles with trying to hook in an existing Sharepoint
DB so I blew away Project Server and reinstalled on SP4 (but this time
pointing to an existing database) and to my surprise it worked. I was
attributing it to the fact I was pointing to a clean, working DB, rather than
creating a new DB. Maybe we just have to do it twice.
