I installed Project Server 2003 on a Windows 2000 and Windows 2003 server on
Aug. 8. I used Window Update to install patches & updates prior to
installation of the Project Server software. On Aug 9 Windows Update
service failed and has continued to fail with the same error on both servers.
(Project Server 2003 functions properly) The update support group used a
livemeeting session to troubleshoot the update service without success. I
watched them execute all the procedures I had already tried in my attempt to
resolve the problem.
I suspect that the failure may be due to a problem with certificate services
which was altered/configured during the Project Server 2003. None of the
three update tech could answer whether certificate services are used during
the Automatic Windows Updates. I was then referred the $240 paid support. I
protest this action by Microsoft because I am fairly confident that this is
an installation bug caused by the Project Server 2003 installation.
WINDOWS UPDATE ERROR
We encountered the error code 0x80072EEF and the requested page can not be
displayed while accessing the Windows Update website.
** The failure was first recorded in the event Viewer the day following
installation of Microsoft Project Server 2003. Prior to this Microsoft
Updates functioned properly. The same error is occuring on both a Windows
2000 & 2003 server.
** Another server on the same sub-net updates properly using Windows
Update, ruling out a firewall issue within the enterprise. (This server did
not have Microsoft Project Server 2003 installed)
** Microsoft Office Updates functions properly on the 2 affected
servers.
Actions Already Taken
I have added all varieties of the updates.microsoft.com to the
trusted server entries, I have verified that the Host file contains only a
localhost entry. I have flushed DNS and loaded a clean host file using
nbtstat –R command. I have reinstalled iesetup.exe, I upgraded to IE 7.0
w/o success. I uninstall the IE 7.0 beta. I have installed
WindowsServer2003-KB912945-x86-enu.exe and reregistered all the .dll files
specified in the documentation.
I would appriciate that someone in the project server group answer my
question, IS THIS A CERTIFICATE PROBLEM?? If this is a "bug" as I suspect,
I would appreciate support without a $240 charge. My client an urban school
distict does not have a budget for such expenditures.
