Windows Updated - now Office won't intiate?

I recently installed a Windows update for my Windows 98.
Now, none of the MS Office Files will open and all I get
is an error message that reads "The Windows Installer
failed to install the program associated with this file.
Please contact your system administrator." Are there any
suggestions as to how I can reassociate the link to open
these programs?
