Windows Vista and FrontPage Server Extensions

I just ran the Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor on my PC and one of the problem
areas it found was:

Microsoft FrontPage Server Extensions 2002

Before you upgrade to Windows Vista, uninstall this program. After upgrade,
this program will be blocked from re-installing due to known compatibility
issues. Please visit the vendor's website for possible solutions.

So what do people that like to work on their sites locally do?

Disk-based. You can author against the folder path for the Web site or
create a new virtual directory.

That's going to affect a lot of FP users that rely on the FP Server
Extensions to work on their sites locally. Too bad MS couldn't make them
compatible with Vista.

compatible with Vista.

I think the general trend from MS is to move AWAY from the FPSE. Many
(including myself) wish it would just be a clean break, but it seems
to be moving slowly. All in all, it's a good idea for all Web
designers to start designing FrontPage components out of Web sites.

With that said, I sure would have liked to see HTTP publishing support
in Vista. I'm not sure why WebDAV has not been beefed up.

No. IIS 7 is in Vista. I'm saying that the FPSE will not work on
Vista.

Which Vista versions have IIS 7?

No. IIS 7 is in Vista. I'm saying that the FPSE will not work on
Vista.

- removal of the FP SE makes editing /testing server side scripted pages in a Site (except ASP.net in EW) virtually impossible

about compatibility.

Not at all. Say you have an ASP application hosted on
http://localhost. In EW, you author against c:\inetpub\wwwroot. Then
you just enter a custom URL in the site settings of http://localhost.

Yes. I've done this many times and it works great. You can also use
the ASP.NET Development Server as long as you don't need to test
legacy ASP or some other server-side technology.
