Windows Word 2000 not compatible with Mac Office Word 2004

I just upgraded to Professional Mac Word 2004 & 2004 Entourage from
Mac Office 2003. Documents that have been produced in my company on
windows word 2000 now have an issue as I work with them on my
computer. The graphics and all image files are MIA. The images show
up as solid black placeholders. I have installed all service packs
11.1.0 and 10.1.6. I have run the disk utility of repair disk for
correction permissions. No improvement. I am left with one option.
Back-out of 2004 version and reinstall 2003, unless there is an
alternative suggestion?

Several things to check before removing and reinstalling:

Check your View settings under Preferences--there is, for instance, one to
show placeholders, although I wouldn't think they would be solid black. Test
different Views, and without Zoom.

Are these graphics actually embedded in the documents, or merely linked?
What graphic format are they in? While WinWord 2000 *is* compatible with
Office 2004, I think certain graphic formats are not cross-platform.

Did you install only Word and Entourage, and not the entire Office suite?
Sometimes that can cause glitches.

Run through the standard troubleshooting fixes:
http://word.mvps.org/MacWordNew/TroubleshootingIndex.htm
(hit refresh a few times in Safari, or use a different browser)

By the way, there is no MacOffice 2003. Office 2003 is a Win version.
Office X is the previous Mac version. I'm a little confused by how you say
you ran the 10.1.6 (the final updater for Office X) and 11.1.0 (the updater
for Office 2004) on a computer that you suggest doesn't have Office X
anymore.

Hi Bre'

Not here: documents and templates produced in Word 2000 are fine here in
Word 2004.

What "type" of graphics are we talking about? Certain kinds of graphic file
will not convert to the Mac. A case in point is Visio. Microsoft Visio
diagrams that have been embedded in the document as Visio will not display
on the Mac. If you save the Visio files as EMF or WMF, then insert that
into the document, they will convert to PICT on the Mac.

Cheers
