Windows XP and RAM

Hello all.

Although I do have MS Office, I have more of a Windows question.

I currently have Windows XP/Media and although Control Panel reflects 4 Gig
of RAM, I heard that Windows XP only recognizes a max of 2 Gig. Is that
true? If so, will upgrading to Vista change that?

Thanks.

Better asked in a Windows XP group but...

Windows 32 bit will only recognize 3 gigs of RAM. Vista 32 bit is the same.

And unless you are making extensive use of Graphics apps / Video rendering
etc, and you only mention Office, then 4gb of ram is overkill, and if you
use only Office then 2gb is likewise

i have recently upgraded to 4 GB of ram, however it only shows as 3.25 GB, i
was adviced that XP 32 bit would only show a maximum of 4 GB, however i was
also informed that even though XP does not recognise the 'surplus' memory, it
will use it if it is needed.
