Windows XP Package 2 & Security centers: Unberably slow

I have tried to update the new windows XP P2. The resoult is that it slows
everithing, including web browsing to the point it is un-usable.
I had to revert it.
I have the feeling there is a duplication or interference with the McAfee
security center, but I have not found any instructions, comments, or solutions
