Windows XP Recovery. Outlook mail lost?

Hi.
I have a problem in my pc and i have to make a windows recovery. I use the
recovery cd created by the windows xp - the windows xp version came installed
in the pc by the vendor.
I have Office XP also. Now, the Outlook icon appears on the start but when i
try to execute they give me the message that outlook aren't properly
instaled. And i can't also find the pst file.
All my mails are gone?
Thanks.
Best regards

Yes. Using a RECOVERY CD as opposed to a proper XP CD restores your computer
to the state it left the factory gate. Not only are all your emails gone,
but every other document, favorites etc are ALL gone.
An expensive but salutary lesson - BACKUP!

Thanks for your answer but that isn't true.
I find all my desktop and favorites files for instance. They are hidden. I
find all my files except the pst file.
The cd doesn't format the pc. Notice that i can see the start programs that
i allready have before the recovery, like the Office. I make the recovery
with the recovery cd's created by the XP.
I have backup but with 2 weeks old. My problem is the mails about the 2
weeks difference.

Thanks.

Best regards

Open Windows Explorer and enter

%UserProfile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

in the Address field. Click Go. Do you see your PST? If you don't have the
hiding of known file extensions disabled, it will appear as an "Outlook Data
File".

Thanks for your help but the folder is empty...

Then your recovery process cleaned the data out and you're out of luck. Next
time, make sure you make an off-disk copy of your data or enlist in one of the
online backup services like Mozy or Carbonite. Mozy has a free-for-home-use
license that allows the backup of 2GB worth of data.

Hi
Yiou can try a tool called Advanced Outlook Repair. You can download
a free demo version at http://www.datanumen.com/aor/aor.exe . I think
it is a useful repair tool for you. It is easy to recover your PST
file by using its wizard. It is a powerful tool to recover messages,
folders and other objects from corrupt or damaged Microsoft Outlook
PST files.
