Windows XP startup problems

I recently was having problems with my OS. The CPU usage, even at idle, was
100% and it was running really slow. I had 54 processes running right after
startup. So, I went into system configuration and selected "Diagnostic
Startup" which then restarted my computer and loaded up a much faster OS.
The problem was that it did not load the processes that I need; such as, my
wireless internet connection, and many other crucial processes/applications
that are necessary for my schooling. Even the Windows toolbar was changed.
It went from the green and blue XP display to the old gray appearance. I
then went back to system configuration and selected normal startup and it
loaded all devices and drivers, but it still has not loaded the processes
that I need (i.e. internet connections). The toolbar is also still gray and
not like it originally was. I have tried restarting many times and changed
the system configuration back, but it won't fix the problem. I also tried
system restore, but for some reason, there are no restore points for me to
choose from! I thought that there is suppose to be a restore point after any
software is installed, but there isn't; so this isn't an option. If someone
could please offter some advice or a solution, I would greatly appreciate it.
I need my pc back and fully operational quickly.....HELP!!!

Well first off this a Microsoft Access database forum so you're not asking
the right people.

I would highly suggest updating your virus checker and running a complete
scan. Maybe even use a free on-line checker like:

Then I would also run a good, updated spyware checker like AdAware.

Next run CCleaner as it can fine and fix problems plus get rid of junk.
